TP-Link AC5400 Tri-Band Gaming Router (Archer C5400X) Review

We’re going to talk about the Tp-link Archer C5400X review.

This is supposed to be one of the best gaming routers out here let’s get rid of the box and let me show you that actual product here.

So this is what it looks like from the top and from the size, it’s got your antennas around all of the edges here are all the LAN ports.

I believe has got eight-line books here and there’s an option over here for link aggregation which is basically both of you connect to LAN ports or both to the same network.

So basically, that’s used for network residency and you know basically getting a fossil network speed.

If you do use the link aggregation what happens is basically you get double the speed so you can get speed up to do 2000 Mbps while maintaining two networks at the same time.

So one of them feels you get an opportunity to have another network so you don’t completely lose connection and other than that it’s got two USB 3.0 on the side.

But which is basically for your network storage and that’s about it on the right it’s quite heavy to be fast but it does not matter I mean it looks pretty cool.

TP-Link AC5400 - 8 antenas

We’re going to show you an image of the router with both antennas plugged in.

So like I was saying guys this is what the rough looks like with all the antennas plugged in are a total of eight and tears and it’s not only for the show.

It is supposed to give you a range boost.

TP-Link Archer C5400X Review: Web interface

What you have to do is basically get into the interface getting to keep your link interface the Web interface.

TP-Link AC5400 Review: All the mobile interface

If you have a mobile app available then you can do and it’s very GUI friendly.

You can go up there you can put up your price optimization.

So let’s say you have three devices you’ve got PlayStation playing Mortal Kombat on quality.

And then you’ve got another device which is your mobile phone and another device that is connected to your iPad probably you know watching Netflix.

Alright, so guys there are a lot more things that I want to talk about apart from this specific stuff that I know spoke about before because this router is a gaming Roger and it’s a lot bad gamers would like to know in-depth about it.

So let me just get into it one of the best parts about the router is that it’s a frypan black-eye router on the Tp-Link AC 5400.

TP Link AC5400X top rated configuration

This basically means that you know usually gamers love to play on a router that is you know not Wi-Fi-based but F net-based.

This basically means that it’s powerful on the Ethernet on the cable side of things so that I’ve gamers love plugging in and playing getting the constant connection and consistent bandwidth.

But playing on Wi-Fi on this router wouldn’t be the worst idea just because this router is made for gamers.

Who not have the capability of you know putting down a wire from their house or you know if you want to play on Wi-Fi this router is probably the best you can get for gaming.

TP-Link AC5400 most powerful CPU

Other than that obviously 1.8 gigahertz quad-core CPU 3 by Phi coprocessor with a 1GB RAM 16GB storage and Bluetooth interface available on the router.

Now Bluetooth obviously helps you in a lot of ways on the networking device apart from that 9 Gigabit Ethernet ports on the router are present now obviously 9 kick of its Ethernet ports are your cat 6 ports your internet ports.

TP-Link AC5400 - wired connection

The router obviously comes up with the quality of service QoS and port forwarding for prioritizing gaming.

TP-Link AC5400 acceleration

Port forwarding is quite common these days on every single router.

But port forwarding obviously helps and port forwarding on this router basically is a bit more different than the other router is where this router already has a certain amount of ports that are mentioned and you guys can use those ports.

Those are the most common use ports and if you don’t want that you can obviously use your custom ports and enter the numbers in and you’re good to go.

TP-Link Archer C5400X Review: The gaming traffic

Now traffic control or prioritization is something present in a lot of routers these days and high-class routers in this router make it a bit different.

TP-Link AC5400 - gaming traffic

Because let’s say you have an Xbox you have a Playstation you’re playing Call of Duty on your Playstation and you’re playing FIFA on your box FiIFA hopefully will take or will need lesser bandwidth than the cold city.

TP-Link AC5400 wifi performance

So let’s say you’re playing Cod and if your fat at the same time and you have a 100 MB connection it probably is probably gonna give you.

You know more bandwidth to call a stadium less benefit to FIFA just because you know that that’s what it needs it’s gonna give you what it what the game needs and you know everyone’s happy in the house your brother’s happy playing FIFA.

You’re good to go playing card no one’s complaining and everyone gets what they need.

TP-Link AC5400 Review: Self-made security system

So the roger comes with a Self-made security system it has something called home care which is a high-tech so high-tech antivirus protected connections firewall, guest network, and parental control.

TP-Link AC5400 wifi self made security system

Parents all control is basically so that you don’t let your child play a lot or you know watch Netflix four hours and hours instead of doing it so doing his or her homework.

So what do you know how it works is basically you put up parental control on and then let’s say you have your child Maxis from MacBook.

And so it’s gonna show up as Mac’s MacBook pro on you on the router screen and you can set it up to let’s say two hours for Netflix.

And whenever max goes on his MacBook and browses Netflix for two hours or more it’s gonna just disable Netflix completely until for the next 24 hours or whatever your tide bandwidth is a time limit is.

Also the last but not least but 8 detachable antennas that look like flames that’s literally what it says on the website which is pretty cool and the TP-Link AC5400 Tri-Band Gaming Router range is 100 Ft.

TP-Link AC5400 wifi 8 detachable antennas

Because now it does look like flaming its flames I mean it’s black and red and it looks really nice, nice compliments to look at the router.

Also, guys the product key selling points about this router one of the key points is that the Archer C5400X does come with 2.4g 5g Lan.

TP-Link AC5400 wifi most poerful cpu

And you have two 5g networks basically so how it would work is usually your router before in 1900.

I would say is probably it just has a 2.4ghz Network the newer routers DC’s have a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz and a LAN so the 2 points 4 and the 5 works for Wi-Fi.

The LAN is in this router’s a bit more modified where you have a 2.5 gigahertz network for your grandparents probably.

And then you have a 5 bigger Center for your parents and then you have a 5 GHz second network for yourself and a LAN network for your gaming like it’s pretty much gonna be a happy family.

You know the second key selling point for this router is that it has low latency it’s about 30% lower than the previous routers.

If you do get latency that is I mean the before you don’t usually get latency depending it even you game a lot if you have dedicated if you’re connected to it dedicated server.

TP-Link AC5400 strong gurantees for acceleration

But if you’re not you’re living like me in the middle of a desert in Dubai no dedicated service at all.

You’re gonna get 30% less latency which is really helpful because the pink out here is insane sometimes the ping goes up to like 150 to 200 so instead of 150.

You’ll be playing on 120 or let’s say not 100 which is you know quite decent and it makes a huge difference and FPS game games especially.

So right here in front of me, I would like to share an image that will be on the article then there’s been a testing environment that tp-link has done with this router.

TP-Link AC5400 latency performance

Specifically where they’ve played League of Legends and they had one gaming device connected to it 12 wireless devices connected to it.

TP-Link AC5400 latency of each tested device

A speed of 100 Mbps and a background download of 11 Mbps and the latency was still less than 70 which is really good.

It was at 70 with a normal router while when they pulled out the AC 5400, it went down to 40 so if that’s a massive difference.

So guys coming back to the chipset like moving a little bit back in the article where I was talking about how there’s a 16GB storage.

TP-Link AC5400 - chipset

You know storage of still 16 gigabytes so in the 16 gigabytes, that’s basically a cloud service EWM is a cloud service instead of having physical storage you can have a 16GB cloud storage in cloud storage you can.

You know have your username your password your antivirus settings your VPN your link aggregation download upload speed like every single thing that you want.

You can put it up here and you can store anything custom made by the user can be stored on it

I mean pretty much your software firmware everything’s on the cloud.

So your physical device doesn’t get heated up as much another main time at the meantime you don’t you know need physical storage which is great you can plug in extra physical storage by plugging in the USB.

I mean the router is amazing in that way so that’s been our first unboxing article in the GME team guys that is the key to feeling our chassis by 400 and that’s about it it’s a lovely router.

I’m gonna have a gaming system going music streaming from Spotify or Pandora on multiple phones.

I’m really gonna try to put this thing through its paces before I give you guys my final thoughts at the end of the article.

All right so now we got the Box in front of us it’s a Linksys AC 3000 MR9000.

Linksys MR9000x Unboxing

Alright so it’s open this thing up okay hoping in the box up so all right we’re greeted with a setup guide so setting up new Wi-Fi.

Download and launch the Linksys app to start setup and this show is a little app store symbol as well as a Google place symbol.

Linksys MR9000X AC 3000 unboxing

And it also shows at the bottom that if you’re adding this to an existing network you’re gonna use the app as well.

Alright, so it seems like they gave you a category 5 Ethernet cable that’s going to be used to connect the router to your cable modem, and looks like they’ve given you a pretty standard AC wall adapter it’s not too long so that’s nice.

Now we will take out the router from the box and it looks like we’re greeted again with a regulatory and warranty information pamphlet.

Yeah, now the star of the show the Linksys AC3000, all right and looks and looks really nice.

Actually, I’m so used to the one that I use that was given to me for my cable company that this just looks so different and compared to that.

We have four antennas that pop straight up it’s gonna give you that nice coverage.

Linksys MR9000X AC 3000 wireless router 4 antenas

Linksys MR9000x Ports

On the back here we have a Reset button a USB 3.0 port you have four Ethernet ports two hardwired to a device.

You also have an Internet port that you’ll use to connect to your modem a 12-volt power supply input as well as an ON/OFF switch.

Linksys MR9000X AC 3000 Tri-Band Gigabit WiFi Router ports

Alright, so guys not gonna make this long at this point I’m actually gonna get this thing set up.

I’m gonna grab my phone and install the app and we’re gonna get this going so stay tuned.

Alright so basically I have this thing set up on the table now I all I did was install the power cord and the ethernet cable from my cable modem and that’s really all you have to do it’s really simple.

I’m gonna turn this thing on right now alright we get a solid blue light and now I’m also gonna grab my phone.

Linksys MR9000X AC 3000 wireless router power and cable setup

And guys just make sure you download the app to whatever device that you’re gonna be using and this way that you’re able to set it up.

How to Configure Linksys MR9000X AC 3000 Gaming Router from Smartphone step by step setup guide using Linksys app?

Alright so I have my phone in my hand we’re gonna click on the Linksys app and it says already using a Linksys product.

I’m not going to log in yet I’m gonna click the bottom one to launch the setup here are the terms and conditions hit agree and now it’s going to be looking for nearby devices.

I’m really loving that they have an app for this yes, it’s blinking purple alright we’ll click that right now it’s checking for the Internet.

So that was pretty quick alright create an account if you have to you already have an account so I’ll hit login here.

But if you have to create an account you just create an account all right we’ll skip that you can see that all right snouts linking to my account.

So basically what I was saying before is I really like that they have an app for this it makes it really simple it’s a guided tour it’s gonna explain everything to you.

If you’re not familiar with setting up your own networking in your house because you know buying a router is you know sometimes can be daunting to a lot of people.

Because you know in the old days you used to have to hardwire a computer to a router as soon as you bought it.

You’d have to type in the IP address to the router to gain access and to the password and username to be able to get into the router and then set everything up and a lot of times you know unless you knew what you were doing.

It was kind of hard and you know as times got on you were able to actually you know to access it and do it wirelessly but this is to be a whole new game.

You have an app it’s guided so this means that like my grandmother could do it my father could do it anybody could do it so I’m really happy to see them implement this.

I don’t know how long this has been around this is my first Linksys router but so far I’m really impressed with the ease of use and the whole package you know altogether.

So this is creating login access that says this could take up to a minute we’ll see what happens alright your account is linked.

Now it’s asking me to name my Wi-Fi so of course, I will name it rrstech and password you don’t need to see and now again we add another loading screen configuring your Wi-Fi this could take up to a minute.

All right same do we wanted network for some reason it didn’t join it but I’m still connected to it.

I’m gonna name this living room saving all right success you set up a router in the living room and now we have a nice steady blue light on the router itself so looks like everything’s all good.

Now we have a pop-up menu here it says expand your Wi-Fi you can add nodes to your router to increase the coverage in your home I’m gonna skip this step.

I don’t have any extra nodes I don’t think I even need them all right always fresh updates will happen overnight automatically and only take a few minutes.

Why not always recommend doing that it helps the manufacturers you know to come up with updates and now your Wi-Fi is ready connected, connect your devices to your new Wi-Fi rrstech all right.

So now I’m actually gonna go to the dashboard we’re gonna take a look at what the dashboard looks like so you know once this is all set up this is gonna be like your main control panel.

If you want to make changes we’ll kind of see what’s going on this is saying do I want to receive notifications when any node losses when any node loses connection to the Internet.

I’ll hit yes even though I don’t have any nodes because why not like doesn’t matter all right.

RRStech is online I have two devices connected that’s because I actually used the same information as my home Internet and that’s gonna enable my computers to just connect right to it.

All right, so here we go so we have Devices right this is the Vice panel you have my phone you have my computer.

It shows you the frequency band that each device is under if you click the device it gives you all the information the MAC address the IP all that other stuff so we’ll go back out.

And now we’ll go down to Wi-Fi settings and that’s pretty much gonna be like the name of your router and your password all right.

So we can also set up guest access so that’s really nice in case you don’t want to give away your password to people when they visit.

And then there’s also a speed check that will do that that’s pretty cool it does like an internal speed test for your you know your internet speeds from your ISP.

We’ll get out of this now and basically, we have parent controls this is gonna be great for all you guys who have kids.

You can schedule pores and block specific websites for certain devices so that’s gonna be really useful for all your parents out there you know with all your kids and worried about you know what they’re viewing.

Device prioritization adds up to three devices to prioritize device is not on this list we’ll share what’s left of your internet capacity.

I think that’s a really cool feature because sometimes you have certain devices that you absolutely need the fastest speeds from.

So you know having that is just great all right so yeah basically just looking at the bottom you have all your Advanced Settings.

You’re not gonna go into that the dashboard is primarily what you’re gonna use when you want to see as the status of your router or any devices that are connected to it.

Alright guys so at this point and we’re gonna go back up now and I’m basically gonna go and give you guys my final thoughts.

Final thoughts

So this Linksys router idea has been performing exceptionally well I’ve used it with multiple TV streaming high-definition content while streaming music on my phone downloading stuff with my computer.

I’ve also had my gaming system on and playing online content there while watching TV and doing everything and I haven’t had anything stop or skip or buffer.

As of the last couple of days, this thing has been performing exceptionally well, and with that alone.

I highly recommend it another thing I wanted to talk about is the implementation of their app.

The guided process that they take you through besides weeding a little bit while it’s getting set up extremely easy anyone can do it.

So if you are looking for a high-performance router but maybe you’re not sure on how to get it set up like a home network no fears there Linksys takes care of all of that for you the app is excellent.

And then also the things with the app as far as device management you have device management where you can do prioritization so let’s say you have a gaming system you have a living room TV and a bedroom TV.

And those three devices you want to say no matter what’s going on in my home I need these devices to work and I don’t want them to buffer or skip as you know.

I just need them to work you can actually set those devices to be prioritized and then the rest of the bandwidth that’s available will be spread out through your remaining devices.

That feature is super easy to activate and I think that’s a game-changer as well.

The other features such as the parental control super useful right you can actually set websites that on certain devices they will not be able to visit.

So for all you guys who have kids out there, that’s gonna be very useful and very beneficial too because I know that a lot of parents worry today and rightfully.

So about you know certain websites that their kids may be visiting so that control is really easy to get set up as well and it’s super handy.

Another thing I’m extremely impressed with is how well this router handles things intelligently what I mean by that is so when you connect like a phone to it.

It’s gonna assign it to either the 2.4 gigahertz band or the 5 gigahertz band now what that means is the 5 gigahertz band is always gonna give you the faster speeds.

But has less range and then it’s the opposite for the 2.4 gigahertz band will give you decent speeds but the longest range.

So what happens is when I connected my phone to it assigned it to the 5 gigahertz band.

Now when I walked out of my house to do a range test with this my 5 gigahertz band started to drop pretty quickly outside of my house.

But then when I went to the app I actually saw it switched my phone from the 5 gigahertz band to the 2.4 when it did that my signal strength shot straight up to full.

So I’ve never seen that before and I think that’s another great feature. so you know we’re gonna need 2 SSIDs usually in the past.

You’d have like let’s say home and then you’d have home 5g at least with the routers that are supplied with your cable company.

So now it’s just one SSID and the router handles all the assignments to the different bands all internally and very intelligently.

And so that’s another thing I’m really impressed with and I think honestly links has hit this thing out of the park I think it’s a definite thumbs up.

I highly recommend this router to anyone who is maybe thinking about upping their performance for like you know high-speed HD content and video gaming.

Okay, so negatives as of now I can’t think of any negatives with this router everything I’ve asked it to do it’s done and it’s done extremely well from the setup to the management to the actual using the network it’s been great.
